A new question I have now that I've experienced the flow of a regular conversation in the other thread is, because anybody can reply to any post at any location in a thread, would it be possible to highlight those new posts? Can the software recognize me from my profile and remember what posts I have read so that when I scan down a conversation the new posts jump out?
I was just going to mention something like that. It's hard to know what's new and changed since the last time I came here. Perhaps I'm missing the feature?
when you're logged in, we try to recognize a previously read post and have it a bit 'grayed' out compared to new posts (currently). As an upcoming feature, we're working on a different view that would 'highlight' new posts and leave read posts as is.
Hello I am having problems with joining up.I put the name I was going to use and my email address and my pass word. But it did not do anything it did not load up or join it just stayed in the center of my screen and did nothing.
I'm starting to get the hang of that. I like that visual difference. There's also the X new replies up at the top right-hand corner of the page; although, it could become overwhelming when we're adding 500 new posts a day.
Hm I'm not seeing anything of a different color or shade and, as the number of posts and replies grow on different discussions it's getting pretty confusing. I'll try the "new posts" link to see if that helps.
All it did when I clicked that link was refresh this page...
Maybe it took you to your latest post, not realizing that you're wrote it, so there's no point displaying it to you again.
Yeah, that's what happens. I just wrote that post, and now there's a new one to read. And when I post this one, I assume there'll be another.
I'll keep an eye out for new posts written by somebody besides me and see if it works that way then :) Danke
we're cleaning up the 'new posts' view and will have something for you guys shortly.
as for the read vs. unread (grayed out when read), i'm not aware of any issues related to that. What browser/os are you running? Do you have a special color themed set on your OS?
The machine I've been viewing this site on is my work machine, so it may have some stuff set that I can't see or control. What I can tell you is I'm running IE v 6.0, no overriding color scheme selected. OS is XP Pro, SP 2.
What should be grayed out..the text insde the post?
Just a thought, does your software use flash to display the posts? I ask simply because the little "loading" icon is similar to the one in flash. If so, that could be a problem, my machine doesn't have the latest version (and I have no way of downloading..no admin rights sigh)
Hey kelfazin, just to answer your question--the site does not use Flash to load the posts.
Ok on Firefox using my home machine I can see the grayed out posts now.
